I am so excited to start a new 2017-2018 school year with your second grader! I look forward to getting to know all of you throughout the school year. My family and I live in Clayton NC. I have been married to my husband Shawn for 13 years this October. We have one child, our son Alexander, who has changed both our lives for the better. Alexander will be turning 5 years old this November and he has been the light of our life.
I was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan where my entire family still lives. I have been living in North Carolina for 17 years.
This school year begins my 17th year in the teaching profession. All my years in education have been at my former school in Wake County, Douglas Creative Arts and Science Magnet. My first few years at Douglas I was the Science Specialist (Enhancement Teacher) as the school began its first year as an Arts and Science Magnet. I established and managed the science program for 5 years teaching hands-on science to K-5. I developed a true passion for science education and carry that passion into my instruction. I decided to make a change in my career and I accepted a position as a 2nd grade classroom teacher in 2005 at Douglas. I chose 2nd grade because I loved how second graders had the desire to be independent but still have a passion for learning and exploring. I left Douglas in 2016 to stay home with my son for a year. It was a great joy discovering all the wonderful opportunities there are for kids in Raleigh and spending quality time with Alex before he attends Kindergarten next year. I decided to enter teaching again closer to Clayton and discovered a new home away from home here at River Dell! I felt so welcomed by everyone and appreciate the acceptance of the River Dell community.
